School Trip – GCSE Historians Visit Bavaria

bruern school trip

Over half term, a group of Bruern Senior pupils travelled to Bavaria as part of their GCSE History course, spending several days in Munich and Nuremberg exploring some of the most significant sites connected to the rise of Nazi Germany.

The trip began in Munich with a visit to the NS Documentation Centre, where pupils were able to deepen their understanding of how the Nazi movement developed and gained influence. One of the most powerful moments of the trip came during our visit to the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site. Walking through the former camp gave pupils a profound opportunity to reflect on the human impact of the history they study in the classroom.

A day in Nuremberg brought further context, as the group visited the vast Nazi Party Rally Grounds and its Documentation Centre. Standing within the enormous rally complex gave pupils a real sense of the scale of the propaganda and spectacle used by the regime.

Back in Munich, the boys also visited the Jewish Museum, learning more about the rich history and culture of Jewish life in the city, and reflecting on the communities affected by the events they had been studying.

Alongside the academic programme, there was also time to experience a little Bavarian culture – travelling between cities, exploring Munich and Nuremberg, and sampling the occasional schnitzel and bratwurst along the way.

It was a thoughtful, memorable and thoroughly worthwhile trip, bringing GCSE History vividly to life beyond the classroom.
