GCSE Results 2026
Bruern Abbey Senior School is celebrating another excellent set of GCSE results, with the Class of 2026 achieving strongly across a wide range of academic and vocational subjects.
Our pupils arrive at Bruern with very different educational experiences, strengths and challenges. A central part of our approach is maintaining high expectations while giving each pupil the support and teaching he needs to fulfil his potential. This year’s results demonstrate just how much our boys can achieve.
In English Language, every pupil achieved a pass or the equivalent qualification, with 70% of grades at Grade 5 or above and more than 30% at Grade 7 or above.
There were outstanding results elsewhere in the curriculum. Half of all Art & Design grades were at Grade 7 or above, while a third of History grades were awarded at Grade 7+. Pupils studying the separate sciences also performed particularly strongly, with every candidate achieving Grade 6 or higher in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
The results are especially pleasing when measured against pupils’ starting points. Across GCSE subjects, our boys achieved an average of two thirds of a grade above their CAT4 baseline in each subject. Across a typical GCSE programme, this equates to almost five additional grades overall.
Academic success at Bruern is not confined to traditional GCSE subjects. We continue to broaden the curriculum so that pupils can discover areas in which they can excel, including through our partnership with Leiths Education and the development of our culinary skills programmes. The range of courses available at the Senior School continues to grow, reflecting our belief that success can take many different forms.
Members of the Class of 2026 will now move on to an impressive range of schools and sixth forms, including Repton School, Oakham School, Cokethorpe School, Akeley Wood School and Pangbourne College, alongside selective local sixth forms.
We are enormously proud of what this year group has achieved and wish them every success in the next stage of their education. Their results are also testament to the commitment of the teachers and staff who have supported them throughout their time at Bruern.
