Speech and Drama (LAMDA)
Our Speech and Drama programme is dedicated to nurturing essential communication and performance skills that serve students throughout their lives. Through a blend of individual and group lessons, we create an engaging environment where students can build confidence, enhance self-esteem, and express their creativity.
Pupils develop their verbal and non-verbal communication skills, learning to speak clearly, use effective body language, and listen actively. By taking part in performances and collaborative projects, they gain self-assurance and learn to express themselves with poise.
We also offer opportunities for students to prepare for LAMDA (London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) graded examinations. These internationally recognised qualifications assess performance and communication skills, providing a structured pathway for student development.
Our curriculum is designed to be both educational and enjoyable, ensuring that students not only learn valuable skills but also have fun in the process. Whether through acting, devising drama, or group performances, our Speech and Drama programme equips students with the tools they need to communicate effectively and confidently in all areas of life.
Leiths Partner School
We are delighted to be entering the second year of our partnership with Leiths School of Food and Wine, through which cookery is now firmly established as a curriculum subject at Bruern Abbey Senior School.
Cookery was first introduced as an extra-curricular option when the Senior School was founded, and it has been hugely rewarding to see pupils develop their confidence, independence and enthusiasm in the kitchen. Since September 2025, pupils have been able to build on that interest through a structured programme of practical cookery, with those following the qualification pathway working towards the CTH Level 2 in Culinary Skills.
Our purpose-built teaching kitchen at Chilton opened in 2025 and has quickly become an important part of school life. Designed specifically for practical food education, it provides pupils with a professional, well-equipped environment in which to develop a wide range of culinary skills.
The partnership has also given pupils opportunities to engage directly with Leiths. The teaching kitchen was formally opened by Prue Leith in October 2025, and pupils have since benefited from visits and input from Leiths professionals, helping to connect their classroom learning with the wider world of food and hospitality.
As the programme enters its second year, we are excited to continue developing cookery at Bruern and to give pupils the opportunity to gain both practical life skills and a recognised qualification.
