Since 1989, Bruern Abbey has provided a tailored education for neurodiverse boys, helping them to thrive academically and personally. In its early years, the school focused exclusively on supporting pupils with dyslexia. However, as understanding of special educational needs has grown, so too has the range of challenges faced by young people today.
At Bruern Abbey, we recognise that no two learners are the same, and we have continually adapted our approach to provide individualised support that fosters confidence, resilience, and academic success. Our staff are highly experienced in helping boys with a variety of learning differences, including:
- Dyslexia – difficulties with reading, writing, and spelling
- Dyspraxia/Developmental Coordination Disorder – challenges with motor coordination and spatial awareness
- Dyscalculia – difficulties with mathematical concepts and number-related learning
- ADHD/ADD – challenges with attention, focus, and impulsivity
- Weak Working Memory – struggles with holding and processing information
- ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) – including social communication and sensory processing differences
Through specialised teaching techniques, small class sizes, and a supportive environment, we equip our pupils with the skills and strategies they need to achieve their potential. Our holistic approach ensures that every boy at Bruern Abbey feels understood, valued, and empowered to succeed.
