Football: Senior School 1st XI v Sherfield [H]

The Bruern Senior football team began the new year with a visit from our friends from Sherfield. Having made the short journey down to Thame United’s excellent 4G pitch we were met with some challenging conditions as the predicted wind swirled across the turf.

The team started brightly and early strong running from Oscar G and Henry M allowed Bruern to break into the opposition final third but not quite achieve the final pass to create a clear cut chance. Sherfield’s strong backline kept things tight but the Bruern midfield pushed hard as Jacob G, Joe B and Nate W all tried to create something.A couple of quick Sherfield goals put a dampener on a strong opening ten minutes but the team battled strongly although Sherfield then managed another couple just before halftime.

The second half brought renewed energy as Jacob G, Oscar G and Freddie T all had chances to get Bruern a goal. James R, George M and Tunde A put in an incredible shift in defence as well as Tom B launching into some strong tackles in midfield. In fact the second half performance was much improved and Bruern limited Sherfield to just the two goals.

Overall the team should be proud of their first performance with some solid defending and high effort levels throughout. They will keep working hard in training to develop their teamwork and positioning skills as we look forward to our next fixture.
