15 eagle-eyed boys competed in a rare shooting match against Summer Fields last week. After a short bus journey to the school in Oxford, there was a long walk through lovely grounds. When we got to the shoot, it was clear it was a special event: it was Summer Field’s first shooting match; their team had a young Floyd in their ranks; plus for some Bruern boys, it was the first time they had ever represented the school.
We teamed up in pairs against our opposite numbers and each took a number of shots at different traps. It was tricky. We weren’t used to the different guns or the different traps and moving clays. But we kept at it. In the seniors, George P. and Monty F. smashed a few beauties out of the sky. In the second round, Archie R. and Leo W. scored big while Ralph W. nonchalantly blasted away, picking off his fair share. In the juniors, the boys also kept their cool and shot well; Theo S. and the Browne brothers came through for us. All in all, it was a fun day and we look forward to more shooting fixtures in the future.
