Upper Sixth A v Abingdon Prep

Lining up for their fifth match of a tough season the Upper Sixth A team were upbeat and hopeful for a first victory.

From the off Bruern looked like a team renewed after their half term break as they built attacks patiently, drawing on what we’ve worked on in training this week. Keeping possession well they pushed forward as Xavi L, Theo T and Nate W all had early attempts on goal. Ethan W-B and Larry W bustled hard in midfield as Ethan G won back possession like a terrier every time Abingdon threatened to push forward.

Shortly before half time the score was still 0-0 despite several Bruern chances. A superbly taken corner by Lorcan O was met by Xavi L who glanced the ball into the top corner for his first of the season. With half time then seconds away Balthazar B took advantage of an error by the Abingdon keeper to sweep home.

The second half brought renewed energy for Abingdon Prep as Will W and Will S were forced to make several interventions at the back and both Jake G and Anthony C’s calmness were required to get out of a few tricky situations. But Bruern fought back again as a long Rafer S clearance was met by Larry W who crossed for Balthazar B’s second of the game before he then completed his hat-trick shortly after.

Abingdon fought for a consolation and got their reward five minutes before time. Bruern then held firm comfortably for that long awaited first victory of the season. Well done, boys!
