Lower Sixth A: Football

On Wednesday afternoon, Bruern travelled to play in a tri-fixture against Oratory Prep and Pinewood. Upon arrival, we were informed that Oratory Prep could not field a team. Therefore, instead of the tri-fixture, we played a longer game against Pinewood.
The sun was out and Bruern had a bright start to the game. Despite having most of the possession early on, we couldn't find the back of the net. However around halfway through the first half Teddy C-F came onto the pitch and changed the game, scoring a volley with his first touch! Pinewood was straight back at us and forced 2 quick saves from our goalkeeper, Maxim H, quickly after the restart. Just before half time we won the ball back in midfield and crossed the ball into the box, where Teddy was waiting. Teddy scored his second goal of the match with an expertly executed chip over Pinewood's goalkeeper. The half time whistle was blown and Bruern were leading 2-0.
After taking on fluids and going through some tactics, we were back out for the second half. Both teams started well after the interval and played some attractive football. A centre-back partnership of Tom H and Henry D helped to keep the Pinewood attackers at bay, whilst Jago B and captain Narayan B were holding the fort in midfield. The clock kept ticking and both teams had some good chances. The game looked to be all done and dusted, however, Frank J had other ideas. He picked up the ball in the opposition's half and dribbled past 4 players before drawing a foul in the penalty area. The run was special and although football is a team game, that individual bit of skill shown by Frank was impressive, to say the least. Frank got up and showed great sportsmanship, by allowing Teddy to take the penalty to try and get his hat trick! Teddy stepped up and with the last kick of the game, slotted the ball past the Pinewood goalkeeper. The full-time whistle blew and Bruern were victorious with the final scoreline reading 3-0.
Congratulations to Teddy on his hat trick which helped the team to a majestic win. Every single boy tried their best out there and gave 100% to the team. You should all be extremely proud of yourselves.
Well done on all of your efforts this half of term. Although you are 14 individuals, you all now look like a proper football team when you play together on the pitch. It has been a pleasure to be an assistant coach to you recently and I look forward to seeing what the second half of term holds. Have a good half-term boys!
