Football: Upper Sixth A v Dragon School

After the tumultuous weather we have experienced lately, matches against other schools have been something of a lottery. The build up to Wednesdays means the games staff face a cacophony of "Will we play/won't we play?!" It was with massive relief that after a frosty start, the weather warmed, and the sun made a cameo to ensure that the senior teams would be able to play their matches at the lovely Dragon School. Speaking of cameos, I travelled with the A team as their guest manager!
The boys were brilliant. They were compact in defence and expansive in attack. They worked together well with Ethan G and Larry W forming a strong and competent partnership in central defence. Lorcan O led the team admirably and he was part of a formidable midfield trio along with Theo T and Ethan W-B. All three tackled with vigour and distributed with panache.
In increasingly biting conditions, Bruern were dominant for most of the game with 15 attempts at goal. However, it only takes one shot to win and in a defensive mix up, Dragon pounced and scored. Despite all the boys' endeavour it was just one of those games that was not to be as Dragon won 1-0. A very enjoyable performance from the boys and long may it continue! Well done!
