Football: Senior A v Sibford [A]

On Tuesday afternoon, we travelled to Sibford for our first game of the week. We had played Sibford earlier in the season and lost. Both boys and I were determined to get our own back.

The game started off well and we were playing on a much bigger pitch than we were used to. Olly F opened the scoring inside the first 5 minutes with a spectacular strike from long range which will be a strong contender for goal of the season. We continued to be the stronger of the two sides and moved the ball well. We soon found ourselves 2-0 up after Louis S whipped in a beautiful corner, which was deflected in off of a Sibford player.

Things were going very well for us, and we looked like we were going to control the rest of the game. However, things took a turn for the worse and Sibford scored on the counter attack and that is when the comeback started. We had a chat at half time about what we wanted to achieve in the second half. Our back line needed to communicate more and we needed to be stronger in the challenges in the midfield.

The second half started, and we weren’t playing our normal game. The pitch was very uneven and made it hard to get the ball down and pass, which is our style of play. However, we didn’t do the basics correctly and unfortunately came away with a loss. Teddy CF got another goal for the season to add to his tally. But unfortunately it wasn’t enough.

The game ended 6-3. We were all gutted as we were leading 2-0 and let it slip. We stuck together though and remembered that our next fixture against The Oratory was just 24 hours away.

We were without some key players due to the skiing trip and illness, so thank you and well done to William B and Jack W who came up from the B’s and helped us out. Both boys more than held their own and should be proud of their achievements. Thanks also to Mr Wagstaff for assisting me on the day.

Sleep. Reset. Go again tomorrow for our final home game of the season.
