On Wednesday, we had our second fixture of the week. This time it was at home to The Oratory in a 9 a-side format. We had been focusing in our theory sessions about keeping our shape, especially in defence. The boys had listened and taken this on board and looked a much stronger unit against The Oratory. We went 1-0 unfortunately quite early on, but the boys head’s didn’t drop. We looked like scoring and came close on several occasions including a penalty, which was unfortunately saved by their keeper.
Nevertheless, within minutes of each other Narayan B and our leading goal scorer Teddy CF found the back of the net and we found ourselves in a strong position of leading 2-1 at half-time. During the interval, we went over our 3 main points for the game, which were 1) To keep our shape. 2) To get the ball down and pass and 3) To be stronger off of the ball in tackles. Miss Ward then provided us with an inspirational speech, which a lot of the boys appreciated and enjoyed.
The second half started and both teams had chances. We fought hard, but Oratory scored a beautiful goal with 10 minutes to go, which our keeper Maxim H couldn’t do much about.
Alex DB, Frank J and Louis S kept the boys fighting until the final whistle. I was quite happy at the end of the game as the scoreline read 2-2. The boys were worried as we had lost from being 2-1 up, but I reminded them that we were also 1-0 down within the first 10 minutes. The boys should be proud of their efforts in the game and they gave 100% in their final home match of the season. Thank you to Mr Hankins who was kindly the referee for the day. The boys loved having you there!
Well done lads - we go again next week against The Dragon…!
