Football: Senior A v Christ Church Cathedral School [A]

On Wednesday, The Senior A Team played their first match of the season away at Christ Church Cathedral School. The setting was picturesque, and we played some great football to achieve our first win of the season!

After a short and sharp warm-up, we were ready to go and started the first half on the front foot. Teddy CF opened the scoring early on with a beautiful chip over Christchurch's keeper. Bruern were the better team throughout the remainder of the first half and created lots of promising chances. Louis S and Frank J were breaking play down in the centre of the park whilst Maxim H was looking solid between the sticks. Despite having more possession and looking the stronger of the two sides, we went into halftime drawing 2-2, thanks to another classy finish from Teddy CF.

At half-time, we identified any issues and rallied together for the second half. The next goal was pivotal. Narayan B did an excellent job and put in a man-of-the-match performance to man-mark their centre forward, who had scored both goals in the first half for Christ Church. Bruern needed a goal and that is what we got, thanks to a lovely finish by Alex DB. With 10 minutes to go, we were winning 3-2 and giving it everything to hold onto our lead. Olly F then settled nerves for me and the traveling fans (very kind parents who attended in the cold) by passing the ball into the net to give us some breathing space. The game looked to be over, but Frank J had other ideas, and slotted the ball home past their keeper to give Bruern another goal! The final whistle went and the scoreline read 5-2 to Bruern.

It was a brilliant first outing for The Senior A team. There is a great feeling amongst the squad and I look forward to working with this group of boys more throughout the rest of the season. Finally, I would like to congratulate Narayan B and Louis S who will be the Co-Captains of Football this season for Bruern. I am sure they will lead from the front and set an example for the rest of the team.

Well done lads and thank you again to all the parents who came to support. It means a lot to us all. We have x2 matches next week, Sibford (H) - on Tuesday and Swanbourne (A) - on Wednesday. Have a great weekend everyone!
