On Wednesday, The A’s returned to the field and took on Ashfold in a fixture on their own turf.
Bruern started the game on the front foot and looked like scoring from early on. It took a bit longer than we would have liked to open the scoring, however Alex DB broke the deadlock and got himself another goal for the season. We were in control of the game, but just couldn’t find the back of the net again. However, just before half time Ashfold equalised on a counter attack and the score line read 1-1 at half time.
After a team talk and telling the boys that the result was quite literally “in their hands” we went out again for the second half. With the rain coming down hard, conditions were tough and we were finding it tricky to get the ball down and play. Ashfold unfortunately took the lead following a free kick out of nowhere and we found ourselves loosing in a game we should be winning. The boys didn’t stop trying though and worked hard to get a result. Bruno T gave us hope with a lovely finish from around the outside of the penalty area. There was 5 minutes left and we wanted more than a draw. We were all over Ashfold in the closing minutes and their keeper made a great save before Bruno hit the bar with a towering header. It looked like it was going to be a draw, before Ben L had a strike from the half way line. Their keeper made a mistake and Teddy CF was there to make sure it crossed the line. There is a big debate as to if it was Ben’s goal or Teddy’s goal…. I will leave that one for VAR! Nevertheless, neither boy cared who scored, it was more the fact we had scored and clinched a win away from home to a school who are very talented at sports.
Thank you to all the parents who came down to support.
Well done lads! A great result and a well deserved win. We go again next week! Have a lovely weekend.
