Football: Senior A v Ashfold School

This week saw the under 13’s and the under 12’s teams mix for the first time this term, creating 3 strong teams to take on Ashfold. The representation from both year groups was evenly spread, with 5 under 13’s and 6 under 12’s being selected for the A team.

Ashfold had a strong team and started the game on top, as the Bruern boys got used to playing together for the first time. Ashfold asserted their dominance early on and took the lead inside the first 10 minutes. Bruern grew into the game though and had the lion share of the possession for the rest of the half, playing some nice, attractive football. Ashfold added to their lead against the run of play with an audacious, well taken goal which caught everyone off guard. The third goal and arguably the goal of the game was scored by Bruern though. Following a hand ball, Bruern were awarded a free kick on the edge of the box. Up stepped Lorcan O, who expertly guided the ball around the wall and into the bottom corner. Ashfold responded straight away though to make the scoreline 3-1 at half time.

The Bruern boys were happy at half time and optimistic about the second half. The second half was a close, tight affair and bruern were unlucky on a couple of occasions to not add to their goal tally. Alas, they were met by an inspired Ashfold goalkeeper who was able to stop anything that was thrown his way. As Bruern chased for goals, they became more open at the back and Ashfold were able to score a couple more goals to make the score 5-1 at full time. After handshakes were done and 3 cheers were had, the debrief began. Despite the scoreline, the feedback from the boys was positive and they all enjoyed the opportunity to play as a mixed year group team. Next week we travel to face The Oratory and will be sticking the mixed teams. Hopefully, with an extra week of playing together we might see the boys get back to winning ways.
