Football: Lower Sixth A v Abingdon Prep

Bruern Abbey 0-5 Abingdon Prep

This week the Lower Sixth faced their toughest test of term when they took on a very strong Abingdon Prep team. The game started at a frenetic pace and it clear from very early on the teams were well matched. Abingdon dominated possession, but Bruern looked comfortable in defence and looked to hit Abingdon on the counter attack. This plan almost worked midway through the first half when first Louis S and then Alex DB came close to scoring, forcing the Abingdon keeper into making good saves. Abingdon kept pushing though and found the breakthrough with a well taken goal 10 minutes before half time. The added another shortly after to leave the score line 2-0 at half time. The second half started as tightly matched as the first, with Bruern having slightly more of the ball than they did in the first half. However, they had the wind knocked out of their sails when Abingdons impressive CM scored a stunner off a free kick to make the score 3-0. Abingdon sensed blood and were now flooding forward, with every player keen to get on the scoresheet. As much as they tried though, they were met by Maxim M in the Bruern goal who pulled off save after save. Abingdon were able to add 2 more to their tally, but it could have been a lot more has it not been for the heroics on Maxim M in between the sticks.

The Match ended 5-0, a tough lose for the previously undefeated team to take. There are lessons to be learnt in defeat though and the boys are keen to get to work in training ahead of next weeks fixture. Man of the match this week goes to Maxim M, despite the score line he had a fantastic game in goal.
