Cross Country

First run out of 2023

On Thursday afternoon, The Cross Country Team travelled to Pinewood School for our first race of the year. With recent sports fixtures being cancelled due frozen pitches, it was nice to be back participating in a competitive fixture.

Bruern took a team of 7 juniors and a team of 7 uppers to compete against 8 other schools around a 2.6km course. Pinewood is renowned for being a short but tricky course, and the boys put in some excellent performances.

The first Bruern boy to cross the finishing line in the Junior race was Hugo B, in 24th place, and in the Senior race it was Narayan B, who led from the front and came in at an astonishing 15th place.

Cross Country is all about teamwork. Although runners run their own races, they are also collecting points for their team's overall position. Bruern's teamwork and character, at what was a crisp and difficult race, was impeccable. Whether they came in first for Bruern or last, they all gave 110% and, as a teacher, that is all I ask of them.

A special mention must go to William P, who competed in his first fixture representing Bruern at Pinewood on Thursday and also to my runner of the day Jago B who came in an impressive 17th position and overtook another runner in the final sprint.

Bruern had a great afternoon and I am proud of all 14 boys that competed. Also, a big thank you to Miss Munns who accompanied us on the day. You know the boys gave it their all when two of them come up to you at the end and say, "Sir, when we get back to Bruern can we go to bed please?!" Well done everyone and have a lovely weekend.
