On a gloriously warm day, Bruern took to the road and travelled to the beautiful surroundings of New College school, Oxford. New College historically have been a bit of a banana skin whenever we have played them at cricket and somehow we end up contriving a loss.
This time it felt different, the team were mainly unchanged with only Freddie D replacing Archer F. Jack W once again captained well with Rudy C(S) supporting him as an able lieutenant. The team, buoyed by their performance last week, fielded first and our openers William B and George R started well again, taking wickets, and keeping the runs down. William B ended up with figures of 4 overs, 4 wickets and 13 runs. The support bowling was better this week and Luka M really stood out, bowling a superb spell of 3 overs, 2 wickets and only 9 runs! New College restricted to 78 for 8.
The two Matthews, Matthew E and Matthew M opened the batting, and they showed the growing chemistry between them as openers by setting a confident platform of 25 before Matthew E fell to a good ball. Rudy C(S) then strode in and again both batsmen built a partnership steadily. Rudy then fell, followed quickly by Matthew M. It was then left to skipper Jack W and George R to see us home for a well-earned victory by 4 wickets.
Well done again boys! A memorable week and we move on to next week.
