Cricket: Colts Yellow v Magdalen College

It was a delightful afternoon for the second round of fixtures for the juniors. We travelled into the centre of Oxford to play against what was to be a very strong MCS side. The setting was a picturesque and I think the boys will do well to play at a nicer venue this season.
We played in a hardball pairs format with each batting pair facing 2 overs each. We won the toss and decided to bat first. The boys showed great courage and bravery against The MCS quick bowlers. Scoring runs became tricky but the boys stuck at it. Arki T and Alex M looked the most threatening of the bunch and capitalised on the rare bad ball from MCS.
We ended our innings with a score to defend, however it was going to take something special to come out victorious. We clearly took a leaf out of MCS’ book as our bowling was “on the money” from the first ball. As a team we took 6 wickets and special mentions must go to Ethan S, Orlando H and Pierce G who all stepped up with the ball. We also had a first of the season, when Maxwell L ran out one of the MCS batsmen with a direct hit.
We unfortunately came up just short against an extremely strong side. The boys should be extremely proud of themselves. For many of them that was their first ever game of hard ball cricket. Well done boys and I look forward to seeing what the rest of the season has to bring. Have a good weekend!
