Speech & Drama (LAMDA)

Our Speech and Drama programme is dedicated to nurturing essential communication and
performance skills that serve students throughout their lives. Through a blend of individual
and group lessons, we create an engaging environment where students can build confidence,
enhance self-esteem, and express their creativity.

Students develop their verbal and non-verbal communication skills, learning to speak clearly,
use effective body language, and listen actively. By taking part in performances and
collaborative projects, they gain self-assurance and learn to express themselves with poise.

We also offer opportunities for students to prepare for LAMDA (London Academy of Music
& Dramatic Art) graded examinations. These internationally recognised qualifications assess
performance and communication skills, providing a structured pathway for student
development.

Our curriculum is designed to be both educational and enjoyable, ensuring that students not
only learn valuable skills but also have fun in the process. Whether through acting, devising
drama, or group performances, our Speech and Drama programme equips students with the
tools they need to communicate effectively and confidently in all areas of life.

Leiths Partner School

We are excited to be working in partnership with Leiths School of Food and Wine to offer cookery as a curriculum subject at Bruern Abbey from September 2025. Cookery was first introduced as an extra-curricular option when the Senior School was founded, and it has been a real pleasure to see so many boys take to it with enthusiasm. Now, with cookery embedded as a timetabled subject, we are delighted that this enthusiasm will lead to a formal qualification.

In the summer term (2025), staff visited Leiths in London to explore the delivery of their CTH Level 2 in Culinary Skills. We were left absolutely reassured that we had made the right decision: Leiths’ expertise and passion for food education are exceptional.

Building work on the new teaching kitchen at Chilton is nearly complete, and we cannot wait to see the boys learning in a space that has been designed specifically for this course – fully equipped and carefully resourced.
