James Mercer-Kelly – Teacher of Science, Senior School

We are delighted that James joined the Science Department at Bruern Senior at the start of this academic year.

James brings with him a wealth of leadership and classroom experience from some of the country’s leading schools for girls. He was previously Head at The Kingsley School, having earlier served as Senior Deputy Head at Wycombe Abbey School and Assistant Head at Headington School. Across these roles, James worked extensively in all-girls environments, combining high academic standards with strong pastoral care and an understanding of how girls learn and thrive.

James holds a first-class Master’s degree in Chemistry from University of Oxford, alongside a PGCE and postgraduate diploma in Education, also from Oxford. Outside the classroom, James has wide-ranging interests including astronomy, gardening, travel, cooking and language learning. He has supported Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Bronze and Silver expeditions for almost twenty years and is looking forward to contributing to expeditions at Bruern in the summer term.

James’s experience, academic rigour and enthusiasm for school life make him a valuable addition to the Bruern community as the school continues its transition to co-education.
