In a thrilling T20 fixture, the Colts A's put in their best performance of the season but were ultimately edged out by New College in a closely contested match. New College, batting first, posted a competitive total of 110-8 off their 20 overs, setting a challenging target for the boys to chase.
New College's innings was a mix of steady accumulation and occasional bursts of aggression. Despite losing early wickets, they managed to maintain a decent run rate. Our bowlers, led by their captain, showed determination and discipline, with notable contributions in the field (four run outs) ensuring New College didn't run away with the game.
Chasing 111 for victory, the lads started their innings confidently. Their openers laid a solid foundation, and the team looked well on track during the early overs. However, a flurry of wickets in the middle overs turned the tide in favour of New College. Despite the setbacks, Jack P anchored the innings with a superb knock of 29 not out, showcasing both his technique and temperament under pressure.
Penfold's efforts, though valiant, were not enough to steer the Colts to victory. The consistent fall of wickets hampered their chase, and they ultimately fell short of the target. The young Colts can take pride in their spirited performance, which reflected their growth and potential.
Despite the defeat, we demonstrated commendable effort and sportsmanship. Their performance against a strong New College side was a testament to their hard work and dedication throughout the season. The team will undoubtedly build on this experience as they continue to develop and improve.
