About Bruern

Bruern Abbey is a unique school, catering exclusively for boys aged 8 to 16 diagnosed with dyslexia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia and other learning difficulties. Our beautiful grounds at our prep and senior schools provide the perfect setting for boys to thrive and engage in a plethora of opportunities beyond the classroom. Our highly skilled and passionate specialist staff, support the boys with their academic and pastoral needs; helping them develop techniques and skills to successfully manage their learning difficulties.

Bruern has for many years been the only prep school in the country to have as its main purpose the preparation of boys with learning difficulties for Common Entrance, GCSEs and other entrance examinations to mainstream independent senior schools. Learning difficulties should not preclude academic success, and we believe that extending our offering will allow even more boys to benefit from Bruern's unique offering.

Bruern Abbey was clear, whatever your difference it is not a reason for not succeeding and reaching your potential. There is a complete focus on building self esteem, improving numeracy and literacy in small class sizes which provide a supportive learning environment. With a long list of positives to help him academically and pastorally, it also offers the same opportunities as other prep schools with the addition of labradors, chickens and daily outdoor, mostly muddy adventures. Alongside no homework and laptops it was the chance for our son to be understood and to reignite his love for learning, catch up and be given chance to excel into his strength’s.
