Bruern Abbey School

A Unique School

Bruern AbbeyLocated just over an hour from London and 15 minutes from Oxford, Bruern Abbey is the only preparatory school in the country to have as its main purpose the preparation of dyslexic and/or dyspraxic boys for Common Entrance and other entrance examinations to mainstream independent senior schools.

During the past several years Bruern Abbey pupils have successfully gained entry to a wide variety of these schools, including Winchester, Rugby, Stowe, Tonbridge, St. Edward’s,
Wellington, Bloxham, Canford, Bruern AbbeyUppingham, Shrewsbury, Charterhouse (exhibition), Bradfield, Gordonstoun, Shiplake, Ampleforth, the Oratory, and Milton Abbey among others.

The School takes its name from the Oxfordshire hamlet in which it was founded in 1989, itself the site of a former Cistercian monastery (c. 1141 - 1536). Having outgrown its original facilities, it moved to its present location in Chesterton in 1999, and now occupies a large and imposing 19th century country house, together with classroom and other ancillary Bruern Abbey librarybuildings. A wooded parkland setting of some 20 acres provides the perfect surroundings not only for games, but for such simple pursuits as cycling or building dens in the woods.
